On Stranger Tides

Aargh!  Here be Tasha dressed as a gypsy.  I mean, pirate.
Well, the big day has come and gone and now not only is there a strange English bloke living in my tent trailer that enjoys lemon drops, but I have seen Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  The excitement of counting down this time wasn't quite as high, I must admit, because of that strange English bloke that has come to visit, but it was still fun going to the midnight showing.  And dragging Phil along for the ride, along with Tasha and Kyna.

First things first, I'll talk about Phil.  He made it safely to Utah an hour later than scheduled and Jeff and I went to pick him up.  Admittedly, I was nervous about the whole venture, but after a slightly awkward meal and then saying goodnight, things were a lot less awkward.  We haven't done very much except for watch television and movies, but that's okay.  It's nice to unwind with a good movie, and the weather hasn't been entirely cooperative anyway.

Now on to my brief review of the movie:  I liked it.  It was pretty good.  There were a few parts that were a bit stupid, but as it focused mainly on Captain Jack Sparrow, I personally thought it was better than #2 and 3.  It was a lot less complicated.  I was a little disappointed that the zombies weren't the eat-your-brain variety that I really like, but they were at least scary looking and seemed to be the right sort of hoodoo zombie one would expect.  The mermaids were pretty neat, and both Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush did a fantastic job of creating their characters again.  There weren't crazy lines at the theater this year because of assigned seating, which was a bonus.  And no, I did not see it in 3D.  I think 3D movies are dorky.  Anyway...I'd recommend seeing it if you like Pirates or Johnny Depp.  I don't think it will do quite as well as the other ones have, but that's just a prediction.  I might be just as wrong as the guy who said that the 21 was the day that the rapture was going to take place.

Here are some pictures!  Woot!

I told Phil how to put on the hat.  I promise.  At least Kyna's amused.

Woo!  A blurry picture!  I turned the flash off and it wasn't a good thing.
The rest of our week went well.  Yesterday we went wandering around Temple Square and downtown Salt Lake.  And today we had a get-together at Wes and Liz's place with the family so that everyone could meet the stranger living in the tent trailer.  It was fun, and we were able to enjoy the brief two or so hours of sunshine before it started pouring again.  We eventually moved inside and started talking, and now next Sunday is going to be a funeral potato bake-off competition, which I will definitely have coverage of.  I promise.
Violet already knows how to drive!

Adelle is a good photographer, eh?  Here's a not blurry picture of the two of us at the shindig.

And here's a random picture of Liz because she likes to stick pictures of me on her blog.  Love ya, Liz!
Things are going well.  I just wish I didn't have to work like Phil.  Until next time....
